Cotton Farm and Gin Tour tsasan

Touring around the cotton farm where the cotton is picked and packed into modules ready for transportation to the gins, (gin is short for engine) where the tour will proceed to the ginning process. The ginning is the removal of seed and sticks, cleaning the raw cotton before bailing. This tour also includes a Moree township familiarisation. The tour includes a courtesy pick up and return drop off service to any accommodation house in Moree. The tour operator gives a brief history and informative talk on the differences between an irrigated and dry cotton crops.Cotton's a natural fibre grown on a leafy shrub, and is a member of the hibiscus. The cotton plant briefly produces cream and pink flowers. Once pollinated, these flowers are replaced by fruit, cotton bolls. The most commercially grown cotton is called Gossypium hirsutum and was developed by Mayan civilisation in Mexico. Cotton prefers hot summers with low humidity and sunshine. Australia's cotton season begins planting throughout spring (September/October/November) and ends picking in in autumn (March/April/May), depending on the region, and can be affected by a range of environmental factors such as heat shock, cold shock, sand blasting, hail damage and water logging.Orange is at the heart of one of the most beautiful and productive areas in the State. Named after Prince William of Orange (who later became the King of Holland), the town and its surrounding area are enjoying a growing reputation for rare and exotic produce thanks to its cool climate and rich volcanic soils. The produce ranges from stone fruits and sheep’s cheeses to fungi and grapes. A visit to local cafés, award-winning restaurants and farmers markets in Orange and Cabonne will quickly establish the area's food credentials. About 40 cool-climate wineries operate in the area that has now become one of the most exciting wine regions in Australia. Ancient volcanic peak, Mt Canobolas, offers panoramic views of Orange and has seven walking tracks, camping areas, spectacular lookouts and waterfalls.
