Northern Greece tour

Day 1 We start our journey from the historical port of Syros Island, Ermoupoli. In the evening we'll walk around the paved alleys of the picturesque town of Ermoupolis and have our welcome supper. Day 2 Sailing and dolphin spotting is on the agenda today. We will follow the stream from north to south towards Paros Island. Plenty of time for dolphin spotting with the aid of our hydrophone and for watching sea birds like gulls (Larus genei, L. auduinii, L. cachinans) and cormorants (Phalacrocorax carbo) that hang around in these waters. By late noon we will reach the small fishing port of Piso Livadi. In the evening we will walk the "byzantine route", an ancient path paved with marble plates passing through astonishing landscapes that leads from the picturesque village Lefkes to the village Prodromos, where we'll visit the local tavern so you can taste the home made delicacies of Maria's. Day 3 Our prow is pointing to the south, to the very heart of the Aegean, the "small Cyclades" complex. Some 50 islands, islets and rocks, giving the impression of an "empty" habitat to the unsuspected eye, are hiding an impressive variety of life. The next station of our "project" will be the unspoilt fishing port of Iraklia. On the way we'll stop for a swim, lunch and snorkel. In the evening we will walk the 45-minute paved path to the highest point of the island, where you will enjoy spectacular views to the Aegean and also observe the local fauna and the vultures that inhabit the area. We'll then walk to the main village where you'll taste local delicacies prepared by the baker's wife. Day 4 Today's route is to the east and the mountainous island of Amorgos. The sailing area we will cover is a well-known passage for dolphins. We'll stop on the way for lunch a swim at the crystal clear blue water of the deserted island of Nikouria. We'll continue our sail towards the fishing port of Aegiali where we'll spend the night. In the evening, you'll have the chance to observe the various herbs and endemic wild flowers of the island while taking a short walk to the village of Langada where you'll also enjoy traditional island music and delicious dishes at one of its taverns. Day 5 Today the day we'll be dedicated to hiking and discovering the island's northeast area which is characterized as Natura 2000 due to its unique flora and fauna. We'll start our hike from the beautiful village of Langada. After that we'll relax and enjoy one of Aegiali's beautiful beaches. Day 6 Today the day will be dedicated to the underwater biodiversity of the East Med. We'll give you an introduction of the various species you can encounter underwater and then we'll snorkel at one of our favorite spots where you'll be able to spot yellow cup and false corals, sponges, tube worms, scorpion fishes to name a few. In the evening we'll have a barbecue on the beach and at night you will be a witness to a unique spectacle: the glowing sea. Thousands of minuscule planktonic crustaceans produce light thanks to the phenomenon of bioluminescence. Day 7 We'll enjoy a day sailing towards our final destination Paros. We'll stop south of Naxos at the bay of Kalando for a swim, lunch and a walk at one of the most known wetlands in the area. All the aforementioned animals, plus the stripe-neck terrapin Mauremys caspica, could be found here.
